Christmas Tree Plans

I've been getting a lot of e-mails asking me what I'm doing for my tree this year.

It seems that all of you are decorating up a storm.  I've done nothing.

Everything begins tomorrow.

I'm not sure what I'm doing but I have a few ideas.
Hopefully something unique, or bizarre or awe-inspring.
It sometimes takes a course of its own.

Have a great weekend and happy decorating!

  1. I'm sure yours will be fantastic. My mom asked me why my Xmas decorations were not on my blog and it is because I kind of slapped them up. I am hoping to put together a tabletop tree with vintage ornaments and ribbon candy sometime before the 24th.

  2. I look forward to seeing what you do. I have never done anything unusual with a tree---just colored lights and ornaments collected over the years. Sometimes I get a tabletop tree and have fun with it.

  6. Oh man, I would hate to be you.
You set the bar SO HIGH last year that I honestly don't know how you could top it. In fact you can't top it in my book.
    Maybe... equal it?
Gee, I can't even imagine that either.
Good Luck! You're gonna need it.

  10. I haven't started either. To be honest, I am still not in the mood. I think it has been my health, dampening things. We got the tree today and I will decorate it tomorrow or Sunday. Hopefully then I will feel excited! I cannot wait to see what you do in your lovely home. I almost bought a square wreath this year, in honor of you. Almost. :D

  11. I think you should do a video tour of everything Christmas in your house when all is said and done :)

  12. Oh, it's so funny you posted this, I saw a tree today that reminded me of your tree from last year. And I was wondering what trick you had up your sleeve for this year!

This evening I toured Victoria Mansion in Portland, check out my post for decadent decorations! I think the Victorians believed in "go big, or go home!"

    Have a great weekend!

  14. I'm way behind you. I'm not even going to think about Christmas decor until another week. Can you tell I love it???

  15. The suspense on the tree is killing me. I'm done decorating except for the dining room. That's my favorite and I've saved it for last. That's for this week. Keep me posted on the tree and good luck. Of course it will be to die for...

  17. No tree and a house full of construction dust here. But I'm looking forward to yours! I don't know how you'll top yourself after last year.

  18. Our decorating is always a guess since we hunt down our tree in our woods and bring him back alive. We also use all natural things we find in the woods and it's always a guess that dictates our decorating.

    Happy Holidays!

  20. Hi Steve,
Hope you find one of those sparsely-branched trees that we both like! I'll be looking for mine tomorrow (at the place I e-mailed you about last year.) Good luck and happy holidays!

    1. Miranda,
One of my followers e-mailed me a photo of trees like that at a place in Connecticut. I was going to make the 3-hour drive but a few days later, they were all sold out. I found a place in CA that will ship them so maybe next year. I've also talked to a local nursery about getting some in next year. One way or the other, I hope to have one.

  21. THe pressure is terrible...isn't it? I just finished my fifth tree for someone else and then only to have one of the people I did trees for..call me and say...Hey....I'm going to move that tree to my other house...come help me move it and put up another! Ok....that's it....I can't be doing double trees for people when I still have not done mine. I'm working on mine tonight...but my Mom has to be at the hospital at 7am for tests and me too....every week has gone like that since Thanksgiving. Hoping to get it done this week.
